The Country experienced a sweeping victory for the Republican party in the November 2024 election, winning the presidency, as well as seats in the house and senate. This has been heavily credited to the state of the economy, and “wokeness” fatigue, with the populace finally saying enough to the insanity that the far left has been pushing to the forefront of the Democratic platform over the past decade.
How then did the Republican Party fair across New England? Did it benefit from the general groundswell of support for right wing politics? No, the election was largely a disaster for us Yankees, with Connecticut Republicans in particular once again flabbergasted by an overwhelming victory for candidates like Senator Murphy. Why the continual surprise? This outcome was foreseen by many of the rank and file of the Party, with one former candidate bluntly predicting to me “George Logan is going to
lose” over breakfast. The CT GOP has demonstrated time and again that it is unable or unwilling to tap into the energy that is generated by a presidential election. Strong candidates such as Mr. Austin Monteiro in the 110 th district received little if any official support, while repeated failures and softball throwers like Logan and Mathew Corey soaked up the funding.
This isn’t complicated, President Trump has shown us the blueprint to electoral victory, but the CT GOP continues to squander time and resources on national elections with poor candidates. Is this a matter of incompetence? Resignation? Or is it nefarious conspiracy as some have indicated, based on various donations being made to Democrat candidates by supposed Republicans? Whatever the case may be, it is certain to this layman that the CT GOP is in need of radical leadership change at a minimum. Can we discuss total abolition at this time? Or has the Republican party secured enough gravitas across the
country to warrant continued support in New England, where it is the perennial loser? Abolishing the Republican Party may seem like an unfathomable idea to many, but we can see that the Democratic Party is far along on the path to do exactly that, and they wont need the consent of its members. Will the coming Trump administration demonstrate to Connecticut how utterly inept and effete the CT GOP is? Will Democrats in Connecticut continue to be unopposed in their undermining of the national mandate? Will Mr. Proto and other creatures of the Republican establishment flail about in helpless protest, or will they be at the forefront of action in support of the Trump agenda?
These are all questions that will be answered in 2025, either directly or by the marked silence of Republican leadership. Connecticut citizens will need to determine what course of action will best serve them, and if we can indeed salvage the disaster that is the Connecticut Republican Party. The author will hold out hope that Connecticut citizens have the necessary resolve to plot a correct course once they arrive at the truth, no matter how unwelcome it may be. Choose well Connecticut.
